New study, by the Journal of Adolescent Health, of 592 youth between the ages 12-17 found that 20% of teenagers share their prescription drugs. The most commonly shared prescription drugs are Oxcontin, Davocet, acne, and antibiotics. Most teens in the study indicated that they would rather borrow drugs from their friends instead of going to the doctor.
Spy Parent recommends that parents safe guard all prescription drugs in the house. It is safer to purchase a lock medicine cabinet opposed to a teen having an allergic reaction to un-prescribed medication and becoming ill. You can purchase safes such as the one below from Spy Parent, LLC.

Big Brother is Watching. China and Green Dam

Monday, July 13th, 2009

CB050932The Chinese government mandated that all PC makers include the Green Dam filtering software on all new retail PCs. Giants such as Dell would have to include the software on all of their new PCs in order for them to be exported into China for retail.
Chinese officials stated that the new software is to prevent teenagers and young children from entering pornographic sites or other unwanted sites. Critics argue that China is mandating the software to control the population’s source of news information. The Chinese officials could use Green Dam to prevent citizens from going on sites that are anti the Chinese government. The rumor is that the software will shut down computers if the user types anti government terms in the search engine.
California software company Solid Oaks has brought a lawsuit claiming that Green Dam stole code from Cybersitters. They are also claiming that Green Dam copies their black list which contains the list of blocked sites. Solid Oak has issued and ceast and desist letter to PC manufactures.

IPhone and IPod have the game on lock: Parents Beware

Monday, April 13th, 2009

According to the Piper Jaffray’s Biannual Teen Survey, 92% of teens own a media player.  The survey stated that 86% of those same teens own an Apple Ipod Player. A 100% of the teens stated that they will be purchasing a new iPod within the next 12 months.  It is now obvious that Apple is dominating the MP3 market. Due to this domination, there will be a ton of new apps to meet the demands of the market.

Parents have to become familiar with their teen’s iPod in order to learn how to operate the parental controls. Spy Parent has learned the porn industry is currently developing thousands  of IPorn applications to target teenagers and young adults. Please continue to check Spy Parent for the latest filtering software for the IPhone.

Chiropractor Seeks Sexual Healing on Myspace from Teens

Friday, April 10th, 2009

A Marietta chiropractor and former martial arts instructor has been indicted on sex charges for allegedly enticing teenage boys to send him pictures of themselves naked using Myspace, AOL Instant Messaging and another site.

Michael Macaluso, 37, threatened two boys if they didn’t continue to send him images, prosecutors said.

“He is a parent’s worst nightmare,” acting U.S. Attorney Gentry Shelnut said Friday after Macaluso’s arraignment.

Federal agents arrested Macaluso Thursday morning at his chiropractic office on Canton Road, where he has been living and, according to prosecutors, running the Internet scheme. He is charged with enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct and receiving and distributing child pornography.

Macaluso appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman handcuffed and in leg shackles, wearing a short-sleeved orange detention jump suit that showed off heavily tattooed arms.

According to an affidavit, Macalusa has been preying on teenage boys on the Internet since at least May 2006, enticing them to send him naked pictures of themselves and threatening to blackmail them if they didn’t.

In one case, the affidavit said, Macaluso claimed to be a young girl and sent pictures of a young naked female to the victim, a 15-year-old boy in Virginia. He then allegedly tried to coerce the boy to have sex with another boy and send photos of the sex act to Macaluso.

When that victim refused, Macaluso threatened to post naked pictures of him on the Internet, according to the affidavit. (more…)

Hackers using Webcams to View Naked Children

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

MAITLAND - The FBI made a public plea today for victims of two men accused of exploiting and extorting girls via the Internet to come forward to law-enforcement.

Federal agents believe there are countless girls or women they have been unable to identify and locate who were victimized by Patrick Connolly and Ivory Dickerson.

Connolly, 36, a former military contractor and citizen of North Ireland, was arrested earlier this month at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on a federal computer hacking charge.

Dickerson, a civil engineer from North Carolina, already pleaded guilty to child pornography and other charges and is serving a 110-year prison sentence.

The FBI began investigating Connolly and Dickerson about four years ago after the men allegedly victimized several Brevard County girls, according to court records. The FBI is asking that victims call their agency at 1-866-838-1153.Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.U.S. military base in Baghdad, was transported to the Seminole County jail this week.

One of those teens was told her sister would be harmed if she didn’t provide nude photographs of herself. Another teen was told she would be made “the most well-known girl at school” unless she provided revealing pictures, records state.

Victims, who have ranged in age from 14 to 17, were persuaded into producing child pornography of themselves, said Special Agent in Charge Steven Ibison.

Ibison, speaking at the FBI’s Maitland office, said investigators think there are many more victims in the U.S. than they have been able to track down.

“There could be hundreds, if not thousands, of victims out there that have not told their parents,” Ibison said. (more…)

14 Year old New Jersey Girl Charged with Child Pornography

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Associated Press Writer

TRENTON, N.J. — A 14-year-old New Jersey girl has been accused of child pornography after posting nearly 30 explicit nude pictures of herself on MySpace.com — charges that could force her to register as a sex offender if convicted.

The case comes as prosecutors nationwide pursue child pornography cases resulting from kids sending nude photos to one another over cell phones and e-mail. Legal experts, though, could not recall another case of a child porn charge resulting from a teen’s posting to a social networking site.

MySpace would not comment on the New Jersey investigation, but the company has a team that reviews its network for inappropriate images. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped off a state task force, which alerted the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

The office investigated and discovered the Clifton resident had posted the “very explicit” photos of herself, sheriff’s spokesman Bill Maer said Thursday. (more…)

AJC Reports:Atlanta Teens Busted for Prostitution on Craigslist

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Police arrested two women last week in an undercover sting prompted by complaints that patrons at the W Hotel in Buckhead were being solicited for illegal sex acts.

Caprice Evan, 19, of DeKalb, and Brandi Moody, 18, of Atlanta, were arrested March 11 on charges of escorting without a permit, a misdemeanor, according to an Atlanta police report.

Hotel patrons had complained that they were being solicited for sex as they came to and from the hotel in the 3300 block of Peachtree Road.

An undercover Atlanta police officer got in touch with the two women through the Web site craigslist.com, the report said. They agreed to meet at the W Hotel. At the meeting, the women asked the officer for $300 in cash for an hour-long session, the report said.

Once the money was exchanged, the women began to take off their clothes and dance, the report said.

Uniformed officers came into the room and arrested them.
